Michele Battiste and Priscilla Gonzalez
The Artifact
an excerpt from The Elsewhere Oracle
Oracle
Some of us seek answers in science, some in various versions of God, some in empirical observations and experience, some in the past. Wherever we seek answers, know that the knowledge held there is partial, the stories only a few of many, and its space more mystery than fact. If you are searching for an answer, remember no source is infallible or complete. What you are looking for may be in a place you would never think to look.
The Artifact
Michele Battiste lives in Colorado where she wades in snowmelt until her ankles turn numb. She has published several poetry chapbooks and three full-length collections, including Uprising (Black Lawrence Press) and Waiting for the Wreck to Burn, which won the Louise Bogan Award from Trio House Press.
Priscilla Gonzalez has a newfound passion for life at 40. She graduated summa cum laude from Colorado State University in 2021—despite cancer, chemo, and raising two boys in the pandemic. She doesn’t always have time to create, but when she does, she draws inspiration from the love surrounding her. IG: @priscilla_gonzsilva.
